CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
CBT is based on the idea that how we think (cognition),
how we feel (emotion) and how we act (behaviour) all interact together.
Specifically, our thoughts determine our feelings and our behaviour.
CBT enables us to understand the relationships between our feelings, thinking, behaviours and environment, and the ways in which these can become problematic. With an understanding of how mental health difficulties have developed and are maintained day to day, we can then support people to make changes if they so choose.
CBT cannot remove your problems, but it can help you deal with them in a more positive way. used to help people with chronic health conditions such as arthritis and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and although it cannot cure these physical problems, it can help individuals who have long-term conditions to be better able to cope with their symptoms. Cognitive behavior therapy is also well-suited for people looking for a short-term treatment option that does not necessarily involve pharmacological medication. One of the greatest benefits of cognitive-behavior therapy is that it helps clients develop coping skills that can be useful both now and in the future.
How many CBT sessions are needed?
The number of cognitive therapy sessions depends on your presenting issues. Cognitive behavioural therapy tends to be short term when the presenting issues are non-complex. At the first consultation you can discuss how many sessions may be indicated.
